Getting groomed is a real yawner! Posted by Hello

Grey Day Today

Sort of a Soggy doggy Saturday out there. No better time to bath the poochy woochy. She wasn't thrilled with the idea, but didn't have much of a doggy woggy choice! Just like I wasn't thrilled with being woken up to doggy whines at five to seven on a Saturday morning!

She was fairly patient whileI spent more than two hours blow-drying and clipping her. After five years, it is away of life for her that she ought to be used to by now!
After much primping and preening by me, she looks like a million dollar bichon now! I'll upload a pic or two.
Other than that it is pretty quiet Saturday. I hope everyone is having a good week-end!
I saw on tv that a big slide has once again closed the road and broken the gas main to Prince Rupert..Poor D& B and baby. They'll be back using heaters like last year when it took over a week to get the gas up and running again...Bundle up and here's hoping it is fixed sooner than a week! Maybe it is time they looked into an alternate gas line into Rupert!

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Main Page - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One more page to knock your sox off! This is an on-line encyclopedia that allows you to search any topic. It gives an explanation, as a dictionary might ( or an encyclopedia - duh?) and a very ordered display of the topics within that category. I spent half the day here and highly reccomend it! I'll add it to my sidebar under Encyclopedia!

Pet Health Care You Can Trust: Unsurpassed Pet Care at Nelson Animal Hospital

Pet Health Care You Can Trust: Unsurpassed Pet Care at Nelson Animal Hospital
Recent upgrades to their website, have now made this one of the best PET Health sites, with loads of "How to " info, as well as links to the local pet adoption site: homes4animals.com
Also a link to the lost and found site for any area . There is also a Search link that will hook you up to more specific answers through another network of Vetrinarians.
Dr. Andrew Jones and Dr. Leanne Sackney, have been a pleasure to deal with since I have had pets. I have it in my sidebar under "Pets" . Note there are no recipes affiliated with this Link!:-)

Day in town.. or at least a half day

Seems to take me some time to get out of the house, but I did finally make it into town...unloaded cardboard at the recycle at Kokanee marina, then continued to the LCB to unload a few boxes of wine bottles that E. can't use, and then onto Safeway to do some groceries. They had an excellent deal on boneless skinless chicken breasts, so I loaded up on them as well as some bottom round sirloin steak-also on sale. I broiled one of those babies up for dinner tonight and chopped it onto a bowl of salad. There is something about eating hot meat on a cold salad that I love!
E. wants to try out that South Beach Diet. It took me several hours to make up a grocery list for the first week, by reading through the recipes...but I have the list on an excell spreadsheet now if anyone is interested..I could find all sorts of things on the Internet, but not specifically, a South Beach Diet Grocery List... I'll work on week two next week. By the amount of produce I hauled in from the truck, we should be grazing like cattle and look like Chia pets for the next few weeks!
Time to answer a few emails and hit the hay..I was up early for the photo-fun.

C&J News from Khathmandu

Another email from C&J..
.
Subject: cars, bikes, buses and people everywhere
Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 23:45:10 -0500 (EST)

We've left our quiet mountain trail and are back in Kathmandu... it's loud,
people everywhere and you have to watch where you step (no yak dung) but
the traffic will mow you over.

Nice to have a hot shower when we got back and our rooms are first class
which was nice after sleeping bags for the last week.

Doing some shopping today in Thamel. Tomorrow we fly out to Delhi. The
weather is hot (packed away the thermal underwear already).

Went for dinner last night and ate a big fat steak... have no idea where it
came from but didn't much care. We've eaten enough potatoes and coleslaw
to last us a lifetime... or at least until we get home and can order them
with KFC.

Leaving now for a bookstore that I'll probably spend half a day in. Joe is
off to bargain with some guy about a drum... or a guitar... or a singing
bowl of some kind???

chat soon,
c.

You can take the girl off the farm, but you can't take the love of steak away from a Butcher's daughter! I'd be thinking a steak would be a nice treat after a week of trekking! Sounds like they are back to reality. The tales will be good. Maybe C. can start a blog too!

Election Projection - 2004 Edition Looking Bushy out there..

Election Projection - 2004 Edition
here's an optional site for loads of predictions and maps, facts and figures. One think certain is that they are getting pooped out east and no one is calling it a Bush win, but it is looking that way...too bad.

More News from Everest!

Virginia passed along this recent message from C&J.

From: CJ Slavin
Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2004 21:58:52 -0500 (EST)

Hello all, Starting day 7 after an amazing journey the past two days. Yesterday's walk was by far the longest, about 8 hours...but also the most spectacular. We left Tangboche (3840m) and walked down and up non stop until we reached the Everest view hotel, again 3860m. Then walked across a ridge about half a km above our outward trail. Just amazing. Two days walking, mostly down from now to Lulka and a flight back to Kathmandu. More when we get back out of the clouds.

Love C&J

I bet their feet are feeling the wear and tear!
Nice to hear that they are on their way down..Sounds very exciting...Amazing that we can keep in touch, isn't it!

Eyes Wide Open...Its USA Election Day!

I am sure every station on TV will be carrying minute by minute coverage of the election...The bigger question is how it will affect Canada..Will the dollar continue upwards? Fuel Prices-Downwards? Mortgage rates-Up-Down? Lots of Interesting views, but generally, I'm reading that Canadians will have more beneficial spin-offs if Kerry gets in, so I'll be personally, going with him today. Check the site I posted below if you are keenly interested in the predictions of the moment.
I guess by now you have gathered that we had a blast on Saturday night, with dressing up and going to the BBI for our night of entertainment. E. was entertainment unto himself, thats for sure! Everyone thought he was a good Mrs. Doubtfire! He complained all night about his boobs getting in the way when he played pool, and mostly being the centre of attraction for every pervert in Balfour! He now has a sense of what some women ( well-endowed ones) have to put up with!
We went with Janice and Gordon ( AKA Garth from Wayne's World) who are new to Balfour from the big city of Van. They were great to go out with and "Garth" provided lots of laughs for all of us! Another newby to the area, Susan, joined us and added to the fun.
I wished I had of taken my camera, as the costumes were terrific! The funniest group was the band, themselves...entering as a group of misfits from One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest with a lookalike Jack Nicholson, complete with starched out bedraggled hair, in his old wrinkled blue plaid houscoat, shuffling along in his crumpy slippers, directing another character that looked to be completely dazed, with his pajama pants drooping, and his hair ascew to one side like he just crawled out of bed. They had the place in stiches, especially when "Nurse Rachet" ( not to be confused with "Nurse Rat-Sh*t") summoned the Pyschiatric ward up for their shots. One by one she gave them their "injection" with a giant syringe! We were peeling in laughter, as the dazed guy bumped into the microphone as if it were an alien from another planet, and stumbled backwards to give it a second look.
In moments they broke out in bluesy numbers by Stevey Ray Vaughn, followed by my favorite...Stray Cats! They invited up various guest performers, treating us to a country number by the local young Mechanic( in his Mechanic costume!), and to a variety of songs by a fellow who was amazing on the harp(hamonica), playing like no tomorrow with any one of the six or seven he had brought along. T'was a good evening of dance and music and my voice was so hoarse for the next two days, that I couldn't blog! LOL!
Sunday , Joyce and Lynn came out for Joyce's birthday lunch and some hot-tub fun. Joyce had been woken up by a phone call at 3:00 Sunday morning from guess who? Correna on Mount Everest!!!!! She was thrilled that they found a phone somewhere after trekking downhill for eight hours...They were AOK and wearing every piece of winter clothing they had brought along!

Speaking of Winter, we have a bit of that happening right here...a little skiff of snow yesterday and today it looks like sloppy rain...I have a couple of outdoor things to do, but there will be no rush as long as it is slopping outside. I have plenty of re-organizing to do inside.

I read a great organizing tip the other day...to hang your tablecloths on one of those multi-pant hangers in the closet. It so happens that I had three such hangers kicking around, and was able to free up a ton of space in the bottom cupbaords of my china cabinet, by hanging no less than about 30 tablecloths..yes, I have that many! Every colour era that ever existed, however, one never knows when you'll have the need for that lovely rose pink number!
So clearing out that space, led to a general re-organizing of the china cabinet and my teatowel cupboard, as I could move a bunch of things such as napkins and bread basket over to the newly created space in the cabinet. That in turn led to me polishing the silver and washing goblets, and before I knew it, half the day was gone, but I have ORGANIZATION now!!!!. Today I'll tackle the linen cupboard and my closet shelves...both in need of a cleanup.
Jean, called from Ottawa last night to say she had a wonderful time here and at Annette's and especially loved little Silky...Awwe!
I better quit yapping about doing something, and get on with it...Have a great day and we'll have lots to talk about tomorrow, after the election. Maybe it will be a cliff hanger, non-event like last time! That could happen, as long as the Bin Laden stays quiet today.Pray!
