Photo Catalog of Irises
Photo Catalog
This is a phenomenal site from Texas that has an easy to use index for finding new irises or identification of one you have. Anyone who knows my sister, knows that she has a bounty of the beautiful creatures and has blessed many of us with a tuber here or there, enough to give us all a beautiful iris bed. We are willing to trade for new and beautiful ones so we'll let you know when trading time rolls around! In the meantime, the best plan is to photograph the ones you have , then save the photos with the name ...because it seems that tags on the iris itself just wear off...even if it says it is a PERMANENT marker!

Too Funny
Link up to this site for a great piece of humour from a guy trying to sell his x wife's wedding dress on ebay...
No need to write anymore tonight as the read above will keep you going for some time...
Thanks Fraz for sending it to me....
Now here are a few pics of my babies that have invaded!
Taken with my Canon A 80 with the telephoto lens on it
Not so colourful, but a nice silhouette
Last but not least, a crop of the Kestral that was overseeing the action of the swallows and sparrows...Lunch in otherwords!

Hello : This site is made for easy to share photos online or on a blog.
Hello : Welcome
I have only scanned this site, but came across it today when I was reading another blog. It seems like it would be a good way to share high resolution images with out the hassle of making them smaller for emails etc. That way a person on the other end could print them out if they wanted to, at a regular size.
A gal used it on her blog and one would have to click on a little box to see the picture... okay, I guess, but not the most interesting blog. I think it would be more appropriate for emails to family...like sending a whole roll of film in a snap. I think it is meant for that purpose more so.

Good Cloudy Morning
The new mattress is working out pretty good...just have to nestle into the right zones for maximum comfort. We have 60 days to return it..aghhhhh I can't even think of that!
The radio reported that it is snowing in Rossland right now, and we are supposed to get frost tonight, -makes me think I ought to postpone putting out my little bedding plants. The week-end has better weather predicted with the temps in the 20's, - that will be good.
Okay folks...not much happening around here today yet.I think I will go make some breakfast and get doing something before the rain starts up. I spread around a wheelbarrow full of reconstituted soil, in my front flower beds, yesterday in order to provide something for my snapdragons and cosmos to grow in. The maple tree has solidified the dirt under the fabric and barkmulch, into a mass of roots, so it is no wonder everything under those trees is struggling to grow. Adding dirt each year helps, but eventually I guess my flower bed will end up 10 feet up in the air if I keep boosting it up with more soil!..ha-ha!!!
I arranged some rocks around the base of the twin maples and filled the area with dirt for a rock garden look just around the tree. I'd love to try a clematis in there, if the deer would leave the stem alone long enough for it to grow up the tree. Once,it grows high enough up, they wouldn't be able to nip off the flowers and maybe by summer, I would have a tree full of flowers...Wishful thinking eh?
Have a great day... hope it is sunny and not snowing where-ever you are!
This is about the speed of things in my garden...bottles are growing quite well...:-)

NutritionData's Nutrition Facts Calorie Counter
Nutrition Data's Nutrition Facts Calorie Counter
I found this site in the latest Good Housekeeping Mag under an article on Slimming Down based on the tips Bob Greene gave Oprah to help her slim down.. good reading on page 138 if you have the May issue of Good Housekeeping.
if you go to the Nutriton Data's Nutrition Facts Calorie COunter site first pointed to in this post, you can check out the foods from every fast food outet to see what that hamburger from A&W cost you in calories or carbs and the rest of the nutrition associated with it.! Take a look and get surprised...I was! I'll keep the link under my Linkies in case you are having a food craving while you are reading my blog! Ha-ha!
Okay, after playing with this site for awhile and seeing that an A&W hamburger has fewer calories than a KFC "Twister", I have decided to put a permanent food finder on my Blog...it is so informative...Happy Nutrition ...and I have only indulged in one cookie today...froze a zip-loc baggie of them and will try to be semi-good ...so now it is time for lunch...chicken breast sandwich with low-carb bread...how is that? ...and a cookie...

Half Past Bedtime
So I spent a half hour at the Silicon Zoo site...started out looking at photos of the molecular structure of beer, but moved onto the silicon chip art work. Facinating to think someone is working on a canvas that small...like writing the 23rd Psalm on a grain of rice!
So today was good. I picked up my sister J. and we took a spin up to Winlaw..up the Slocan Valley to the 4 Seasons greenhouse. You have to cross the bridge just before the Howling Wolf ( what used to be)and then turn left and travel about five km's down the road.
We were searching for these very neat little bedding plants called Sanvitalia...they mound up into a 2' in diameter mound and are covered with what looks like miniature sunflowers...yellow or orange petals with dark centres...and tons of them. We did find those as well as all sorts of basket stuffers and geraniums -enough to render us both poor...LOL
I came home and made the best cookies I've had in a long time...Peanut/almond butter/oatmeal..wahtevers( I know everyone has that unused almond butter lurking around in their fridge), but more importantly, I made them with this butter flavoured Crisco I had in the fridge since Christmas...and they turned out so crispy, I figure it must be the Crisco. So good that I have eaten more than an acceptable amount..I shared a few tastes with poor Silk who also couldn't resist something fresh out of the oven...I love warm cookies!
Speaking of Silk, I wish I had my camera with me tonight when we went out. Silk took off into the neighbour's field and then noticed the four deer grazing. I coaxed her to concentrate on doing her" job" for a few minutes, and in that space of time, three of the deer had her surrounded, and had their necks all stretched forward so they could see her better. Curious as kids , they started to close in on this furball and were getting within five meters, when Silk spun around and took chase.Just before she let loose, it ws like a scene from a Disney Movie,...three Bambis all craning their heads to see the newcomer in the forest...very cute...then all four dashed for about three seconds, Silk came back and the deer kept grazing a little further across the field. A great photo opportunity down the tube...too bad...
Here's a recipe that I found at the Crisco site...just had to look at how one uses Crisco in a salad...since it is the OIL they are talkking about, this makes sense now...
Mandarin Chicken Salad
Preparation Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Makes 4 servings
Peanut Dressing
1/3 cup Crisco Pure Canola Oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, more or less to taste
1/3 cup Jif Creamy Peanut Butter
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
In a large bowl, whisk together all ingredients. Mix until smooth; set aside.
Chicken
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon five spice powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, more or less to taste
1 cup coconut milk
2 teaspoons lime juice
Crisco Pure Canola Oil
1 pound chicken breast tenders
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, five spice powder, salt, and cayenne pepper. In a small bowl, mix the coconut milk and lime juice. Pour Crisco Pure Canola Oil into a large skillet, to about 1/2- inch depth. Heat over medium-high heat. Dip each chicken breast tender into the coconut milk-lime mixture, and dredge in the seasoned flour. Shake off the excess and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Salad
1/2 pound salad greens
1/2 pound snow peas, blanched and sliced thin lengthwise
1/2 cup chopped sweet onion
1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
In a large bowl, toss the salad greens, snow peas, onions and oranges with the Peanut Dressing. Place the salad on plates and top with the cooked chicken tenders. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro. Serve.

View the various selections of artwork at the Silicon Zoo...this is highly magnified photos of the doodles found on various silicon chips...like what is inside your computer..so we are talking pictures that are only "Microns" high...Very cool...from Cheetahs, to a Con-artist selling Rolex watches to Buffalo leaving behind their"Chips"...get it...chips on a chip...tee-hee...
This is an example of the the kind of artwork chip designers have etched onto silicon chip. To see the zoo entries, scroll down the page till you come to a list of titles, then click on them...A dog's Life ..etc.

Night # 2 of the New Mattress
Did I mention it was the day from Hell on Saturday as we had to drive into town in the pissy rain to pick up the new mattress and 2 boxsprings and a new frame that had arrived finally, at Sears... So the box springs were twice as heavy as the old ones...extra padding ontop and the whole mattress was at least 75 pounds heavier than the old one...must be all of those "Independant Springs" of various gages of STEEL! So my end was on the dolly, once we ejected it from the trailer, and all I had to do was steer it while E. pushed...right...then it started to fall and I automatically grabbed it with my left sore shoulder arm and bang, it felt like I ripped my arm pit out....Did I already tell this to everyone...or just to M? It took all my strength to heave ho it with E pushing and pulling, to get it up the stairs , across the balcony and into the bedroom. I don't think this one will ever be going back!
In fact, after procrastinating for hours, I finally hit the hay around midnight and once I found where it was most comfortable, I fell right to sleep and low and behold, never woke up with a huge kink in my back... so much better , that I could get out of bed onthe first try! In fact the mattress, feels like my old waterbed...lots of support under my ribs, when I am on my side, and a place for my shoulder to sink into so it isn't paralyzed, and a place for my butt to sink into without dragging the rest of my body downstream with it. So Buzzy likes it, I think!
This is a King-Sized Dreamrest Back Care by Simmons... No-flip, Plush -top, Firm ( not really) Independantly wrapped coils in sections of different gages of steel with heavier gaged ones in the areas that need more support...knees, ribs, head and lighter gage of steel coils where things protude...butt and shoulder and hip...E slept like a baby all night from about 8:30 pm till 8:00 am with a one hour break to check his lottery tickets and hockey scores around 3:00 am.
Time to hit the hay as I did a fair days work today...and had a nice Mother's Day BBQ'd Steak by E. and enjoyed my gifts of flower baskets which will bloom all summer long...Thanks girls!
And a thank-you to L. who came over to Nelson yesterday and met J and I for lunch, then we all shopped till we dropped at MallWart( you know, where they sell cheap plastic crap that breaks) and Canadian Wholesale and then back to Save On for my Hanging baskets...they were the nicest there! Nice day all in all after it started out so hard!
oooh and my biggest apologies to V. I totally, totally forgot her birthday on April 21st...guess I was on my way to see grandkids and had my mind in kidsville. Your card will be in the mail...and Happy Birthday...hope it was the best, now that you are a Mamma!
Heads up ...L also reminded me it will be J.& M.'s 40th Anniversary on the 16th...Time flies eh? We'll have to have a toast to that one...40 years and still never had a fight!:-)
I told S. that I had uploaded this photo already. It is my lovely Jacob's Ladder...I gave a piece to L who saved it from our old Surrey house,a nd she in turn gave me a piece back and it is alive and beautiful. Thanks L for the great job of saving its life for me!
One more pic...of the apple blossoms and my friend..little Buzzy

Happy Mom's Day...
Guess it is almost over, but never really over as to me it is Mother's Day everyday, as there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of my daughter's and my granddaughters and how lucky we are to all be healthy and happy and not so far away that we can't visit or talk on the phone nearly every day. I was telling someone about our early days of marriage and how E. had been brought home from Cominco in an ambulance and how it changed our lives. With unbearable pain in his lower back from where he injured it when he fell at work, he was told he would have to spend time at GF Strong ( rehab centre) in Vancouver. Now here I was with 2 little kidlets and he had to fly to Vancouver and stay there for several months while they tried to "exorcise" the pain out of his back. We wrote letters to each other and he sent me and the kids post cards...This was in the mid 70's.
Seems like forever ago, but we sure didn't have the luxury of being able to phone each other every day. We are truly lucky to be in touch with our families by phone, by email and by Blogging...Thank Heavens for technology!
Hey...How do you like the new look of Blogger...perhaps it isn't visible from my blog, itself, but they did a whole new look and launched it this afternoon on Mother's day...Nice gift aye?
This was taken while I was in Vic.Don't we all look just like we are related???!!!
Her I am again...I just cropped that photo down, as I would like to use this photo on my Blogger account somewhere...I see that HP doesn't allow you to access your uploaded photos like they used to, from their http site...bummer.

Do You Talk Too Much?
Yep after reading this, I think I'm guilty...good reason for a blog eh?
And I was just looking for the sound that went with this joke that someone sent me back in January...anyone have it with the sound yet?
You're supposed to guess which seagull is the female:-)
